Counselling is a process that aims to facilitate the personal well being of the students, faculty and staff through the support and guidance of trained counsellors, for a healthy mind and body.
With the intent to address and help resolve emotional and psychological issues of the student, staff and faculty of Wah Medical College. Such problems if not resolved adequately, often create difficulties in their life. Professional guidance and counselling are increasingly needed to take care of the daily living complexities of such individuals. To cater for these needs Wah Medical College has established a “Counselling Cell” with the support of Honorable Principal Maj Gen Abdul Khaliq Naveed HI(M), (Retd) in the college premises with the help of a trained team of faculty members as Counsellors.
The Counselling Cell encourages the students, staff and faculty to understand themselves and the issues that trouble them and guides them to resolve their problems. These problems can be personal, emotional, social, family, peer, academic, etc. This is done through individual or group counselling to help them with academic goals, social and personality development, career goals, enhancing listening skills, empathy and interpersonal skills to have healthy relationships and a healthy lifestyle.
The role of the Counsellor is to offer support through listening and responding in a confidential, non-judgemental and timely way, ensuring that the participant becomes productive, well-adjusted individuals of tomorrow. They are trained to assess, diagnose and treat students, staff and faculty members struggling with academic stress, workplace stress, anxiety, depression, social addictions and other problems they face.
The goal of education is the harmonious development of an individual. Education helps in fostering all aspects of an individual’s personality. Guidance & counselling has an important contribution in achieving this goal. Counselling is to facilitate positive behaviour changes, improving the ability to establish and maintain relationships socially, promoting their decision-making process, helping them to understand their potential and cope effectively with the problems they face.

- To create awareness about issues and problems related to the mental health of students, staff and faculty members

Roles and Responsibilities
- Solve personal problems of students, staff and faculty by conducting an individual counselling session
- Boost self-esteem of weaker /physically challenged students.
- Diagnose the learning difficulties of students and help them to overcome the same.
- Help the students to overcome examination stress or fear.
- Conduct training program on counselling skills for faculty & staff.
- Conduct seminars for students on mental health and addiction issues.
- Inform the parents about the psychological misbehaviour of the student.

Activities in college are integrated into the curriculum so that students gain through active learning. The counsellor works along with the other staff to ensure that equal opportunities are given to all students. The students through these activities learn better and deeper, understand concepts and learn to apply them to enhance classroom learning.
One of the main focuses of a counsellor is the student. Education is the comprehensive development of the student in all aspects. Apart from academic development, equal attention is given to personal growth and care beyond academic activities.
- Personal Development is a confidence-building exercise that helps raise self-esteem. Every student has a different potential and the counsellor helps students to understand this. Students are taught to enhance positive strengths, develop emotionally and most importantly learn to understand that it is okay to be different.
- Letting Go is the hard part for the student. They have been guided along through their years and the counsellor makes sure that no one is left in the lurch. The hand-holding continues from the first day of college until after the final exams are over.
- I Know, I Can, I Will
At the end of the day of the college session, we want every student to know their worth. Students under our care are taught to be emotionally strong and have the courage to stand up for themselves. They should have learnt to be creative, take decisive action, focus on their goals, have a positive approach and be willing lifelong learners. It’s now we let go of them gently and are confident that they will find their place under the sun.
Standard Operating Procedures
For counselling, a student from the institute can be referred by hostel, principal, faculty, staff, peers and self to the Student Affairs Department. Faculty/staff will inform the HR Department for counselling. Student affairs and HR Department will inform counselling cell with details of an individual for the counselling sessions. In the initial taking in stage, the cell will get the required information and consent from the individual. All the records will be kept confidential by the cell. Diagnoses will find out after analysis of the given information and create the treatment plan. After the successful treatment plan, a follow-up session will be conducted by compiling a report of that case. In case of a failed treatment plan, a counsellor will review the treatment or can take in/ refer to the psychiatry by follow up sessions. By concluding follow up sessions of successful counselling end up treatment by compiling the report of that case.
